I have an exciting opportunity for a Raw Materials Buyer to join a world leader in the design and manufacturing industry.

My well established Engineering client, who has a global presence, is searching for a Raw Materials Buyer who will lead, facilitate and pro-actively drive all raw material supply chain activities within the business. The Buyer will be required to interface with the Procurement Category Manager, production planning, quality and project functions, as well as suppliers, to ensure that strategic quantity demands are communicated effectively within the supply chain.


  • Maintain proactive, dynamic and effective communication with suppliers at all times
  • Sourcing of new raw material suppliers
  • Ensure schedules are accurate and controlled with the suppliers on a weekly basis and dispatch plans are aligned
  • Monitor OTDs and analyse and report the root cause of any late deliveries
  • Take charge of the machine shop tooling contract
  • Take charge of the heat treatment suppliers, raising purchase orders and expediting
  • Take charge and work with production on scrap efficiency
  • Work with production and quality on any defect raw materials
  • Adhere to all company Quality and HS&E requirements at all times
  • Represent the business in a professional manner at all times
  • Deliver raw material ‘cost down’ activities – in line with margin expectations
  • Take ownership of raw material inventory levels and integrate with ERP system schedules
  • Drive to and exceed KPI targets – delivering timely communications to the management team including: key measures – events – supplier activities
  • Develop accurate LLN based purchasing data to underpin KPIs
  • Deal with queries on pricing and shortage issues
  • Contribute to all applicable production meetings and contract review meetings
  • Ensure all required documentation is accurately completed and recorded
  • Communicate any shortfalls to expectations with recovery plans
  • Carry out reasonable requests and any other related duties as may be required

About you:

  • Proven experience of driving both new and existing accounts, whilst maintaining margins
  • Proven experience in purchasing management, covering a diverse global engineering environment
  • Passionate and tenacious approach to service, with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop and coordinate activities through all departments – good relationship builder both internal and external
  • Excellent negotiator
  • Excellent numerical skills – understand and deliver margins – financially astute
  • Tenacious approach to closing deals
  • IT literate – ERP/MRP conversant
  • Manage scrap efficiently and cost effectively


  • Experienced Buyer
  • Comprehensive knowledge of purchasing tools and techniques
  • Ability to generate RFQ’s and understand margins
  • Skilled time served background – engineering discipline (Desirable)
  • Lean Manufacturing – Six Sigma (Desirable)
